Space Station Earth In Concert is a unique multimedia live show created by composer Ilan Eshkeri in collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA). The performance blends orchestral and electronic music, awe inspiring visuals captured by astronauts aboard the International Space Station, and immersive imagery from ESA’s missions. It delivers a deeply emotional and cinematic experience, aiming to evoke the wonder of space exploration and the overview effect, the profound shift in perspective reported by astronauts looking back at Earth from orbit.
The show features no narration, allowing audiences simply to lose themselves in music and imagery. The live score combines strings, choir, brass, and synthesizers built around Ilan Eshkeri’s original compositions. Visual elements include never before seen footage from space and Earth, shown on multiple large screens, combined with dynamic light shows to create an enveloping sensory environment.
Space Station Earth premiered at the Royal Albert Hall in London and has since become part of a European tour. Each performance also includes special guest appearances by ESA astronauts. For example, Tim Peake joined Eshkeri on stage in London, while others such as Andreas Mogensen and Matthias Maurer have appeared at shows in Denmark, Sweden, Belgium, Germany and France.
The show’s repertoire includes tracks such as Maps, Aurora, Stars, Day, Rocket, International Space Station, and Night (Part 1 & Part 2), among others. The accompanying album Space Station Earth was released in 2022 via Sony Masterworks.
