Space is an English alternative rock band that emerged in the 1990s. Formed in Liverpool in 1993, the band's lineup initially consisted of Tommy Scott (vocals, guitar), Jamie Murphy (guitar, vocals), Franny Griffiths (keyboards), Andy Parle (bass), and Andy "Yorkie" Kenyon (drums). Space gained recognition for their unique blend of pop, rock, and electronic influences, characterized by catchy melodies, clever lyrics, and a distinct retro-futuristic aesthetic.

In 1996, Space released their debut single, "Money," which garnered attention and led to a record deal with Gut Records. Their debut album, "Spiders," was released the following year and achieved critical acclaim. The album showcased the band's eclectic sound and featured hits like "Female of the Species" and "Neighbourhood."

Space's success continued with their second album, "Tin Planet" (1998), which included the popular singles "Avenging Angels" and "The Ballad of Tom Jones" (a duet with Welsh singer Cerys Matthews). The band's infectious melodies, coupled with their offbeat lyrics and quirky charm, resonated with audiences and helped solidify their place in the Britpop and alternative rock scenes of the time.

Throughout their career, Space released several more albums, including "Love You More than Football" (2001) and "Attack of the Mutant 50ft Kebab" (2014). While their popularity waned after the late 1990s, the band continued to tour and perform, maintaining a dedicated fan base.

Space's music often explores themes of urban life, science fiction, and social commentary, delivered through a distinct blend of pop hooks, rock energy, and electronic flourishes. Their imaginative and tongue-in-cheek approach to songwriting set them apart from their contemporaries.

Although the band underwent lineup changes and went on hiatus at times, Space's impact on the British music scene remains significant. Their catchy and genre-blending sound, along with their distinctive visual style, contributed to their unique place in the alternative rock landscape of the 1990s.
