Formed in the late '60s by Californian brothers Ron and Russell Mael, Sparks have navigated a genre-spanning career—from art rock and glam to synthpop and electro-disco—collaborating with icons like Todd Rundgren, Giorgio Moroder, and Franz Ferdinand. Their theatrical performances, Ron’s intricate compositions, and Russell’s acrobatic vocals have captivated audiences worldwide, influencing generations of artists, from Joy Division to Beck.
Now in their sixth decade, Sparks remain more relevant than ever. Their recent albums, Hippopotamus (2017), A Steady Drip, Drip, Drip (2020), and The Girl Is Crying in Her Latte (2023), all hit the UK Top 10. The acclaimed 2021 documentary The Sparks Brothers introduced them to new audiences, while their film musical Annette (2021) won multiple César and Lumières Awards.
In 2023, Sparks embarked on a triumphant world tour, selling out venues like London’s Royal Albert Hall, the Sydney Opera House, and their largest-ever headline show at the Hollywood Bowl. In 2024, they released their 27th studio album, the original Annette recordings, and announced a new musical epic, X-Crucior, in development with Focus Features and director John Woo.
