Swans are an American experimental rock band formed in New York City in 1982 by the visionary musician Michael Gira. Over four decades, the band has become one of the most influential and uncompromising forces in underground music, known for their intense live performances, sprawling compositions, and fearless exploration of sound, emotion, and transcendence.

Emerging from the early No Wave scene, Swans initially gained notoriety for their brutally heavy, industrial-influenced sound, as heard on albums like Filth (1983) and Cop (1984).
