The Blockheads are a British rock band formed in London in 1977. Originally known as Ian Dury and the Blockheads, they gained prominence with their unique blend of punk, funk, and new wave. Their breakthrough came with the release of New Boots and Panties!! in 1977, featuring the hit single “Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll.” The band continued to achieve success with songs like “Hit Me with Your Rhythm Stick” and “Reasons to Be Cheerful, Part 3,” solidifying their place in British music history.
Following the death of lead singer Ian Dury in 2000, The Blockheads reformed and have since continued to perform and record. The current lineup includes founding members Chaz Jankel (guitar and keyboards), Mick Gallagher (keyboards and piano), and John Turnbull (guitar), alongside newer members Nathan King (bass), John Roberts (drums), Mike Bennett (vocals), and saxophonists such as Gilad Atzmon and Davey Payne.
In 2025, The Blockheads are celebrating 48 years of music with a series of UK tour dates. Fans can expect to hear classic hits and new material performed with the band's signature energy and style.
