The Killers are an American rock band formed in Las Vegas in 2001 by Brandon Flowers (lead vocals, keyboards, bass) and Dave Keuning (lead guitar, backing vocals). The band's lineup was solidified in 2002 with the addition of Mark Stoermer (bass, rhythm guitar, backing vocals) and Ronnie Vannucci Jr. (drums, percussion). The band's name was inspired by a fictitious band in the music video for New Order's "Crystal."
The Killers have released seven studio albums, all of which reached the top of the UK Albums Chart: Hot Fuss (2004), Sam's Town (2006), Day & Age (2008), Battle Born (2012), Wonderful Wonderful (2017), Imploding the Mirage (2020), and Pressure Machine (2021). Their discography also includes a B-sides compilation (Sawdust), a live album (Live from the Royal Albert Hall), two greatest-hits albums (Direct Hits and Rebel Diamonds), and a Christmas compilation (Don't Waste Your Wishes).
Since 2016 and 2017, Stoermer and Keuning have taken extended hiatuses from touring, though they remain official members. Ted Sablay and Jake Blanton have filled in for live performances. Despite the hiatuses, both Stoermer and Keuning have contributed to recent recording sessions.
The Killers are one of the biggest rock bands of the 21st century, with over 28 million records sold worldwide. They have headlined major venues and festivals around the world, including Madison Square Garden, Wembley Stadium, and Glastonbury Festival.
In 2022, they began working on their eighth album, but it was ultimately scrapped due to Flowers' dissatisfaction with its direction. However, songs from the scrapped album were included in their 2023 greatest hits compilation, Rebel Diamonds. The band remains a significant force in rock music, continuing to tour and release new material.
