The Skints are a London-based band whose genre-blending sound fuses reggae, ska, dub, punk, and hip-hop into a vibrant and socially conscious mix that has earned them a dedicated following across the UK and beyond. Known for their infectious grooves, sharp lyricism, and high-energy performances, The Skints have become one of the most respected voices in modern British reggae and alternative music.

Formed in East London in 2007, the band – Marcia Richards (vocals, keys, sax, flute), Joshua Waters Rudge (vocals, guitar), Jamie Kyriakides (drums, vocals), and Jon Doyle (bass) – began as part of the city’s underground punk and ska scene. They soon developed a unique sound that infused traditional reggae rhythms with soulful melodies and elements of grime and hip-hop, creating a distinctly urban and modern take on Jamaican-inspired music.

The Skints’ early releases, such as Live. Breathe. Build. Believe. (2010), showcased their DIY ethic and youthful energy. Their 2015 album FM was a major breakthrough, styled as a concept record inspired by pirate radio culture, and featured guest appearances from Tippa Irie and Horseman. The band continued to evolve with Swimming Lessons (2019), which delved into themes of resilience, politics, and love while broadening their sonic palette with R&B, dub, and indie influences.

Their live performances have become legendary for their musicianship and energy, earning them spots at major festivals like Glastonbury, Boomtown, and Reading & Leeds. The Skints’ ability to bridge genres and communities has made them both a festival favourite and a powerful voice for cultural unity and expression.
