Born on 26 August 1976, Zemfira Talgatovna Ramazanova is a renowned Russian rock musician of Volga Tatar descent. Since her debut in 1998, Zemfira has become a prominent figure in the Russian music scene, selling over 3 million records.
Growing up in Ufa in a middle-class family, Zemfira showed a keen interest in music from an early age. She attended music school, studying piano and voice, and wrote her first song at seven. Influenced by rock bands like Black Sabbath, Nazareth, and Queen, she learned to play the guitar and developed a passion for rock music. By 1990, she had also become the captain of the Russian Girls’ Junior Basketball Team but eventually chose music over sports.
Zemfira graduated with honors from the Ufa College of Fine Arts, where she studied vocal performance. Her professional career began as a sound engineer at Europe Plus radio station in Ufa. She formed her band in 1998, and their first major performance was in 1999.
Her debut album, released in 1999, quickly gained popularity. This was followed by several successful albums, including "Forgive Me My Love" (2000) and "Vendetta" (2005). Known for her unique rock style and deep, introspective lyrics, Zemfira's music often stands out in a scene dominated by pop.
Throughout her career, Zemfira has received critical acclaim and numerous awards. Her concerts are known for their powerful performances and emotional depth. In 2016, she announced she would stop touring, although this did not mark the end of her music career.
