Granary Square is one of the largest urban spaces of its type in Europe and will form a focal point for the whole King’s Cross area. It sits at the heart of a historic railway goods yard dating back to the 1850s.
The square has dramatic fountains, operational Monday - Sunday 8am - 8pm, comprising 1080 water jets.
**Please note on Monday 10 September, the fountains will be operating 12pm - 8pm**
Based within the old canal basin into which the barges once entered to unload their goods, the fountains will enable water to be the focus of activity once again. The square will also be able to host a wide variety of events and activities, from concerts to an ice rink.
Access to the Regent's Canal, which runs through the centre of the site, will be made possible via terraced steps and a public lift from Granary Square.
The square will also be home to two contemporary pavilions which will further animate the space and, in the case of the eastern pavilion, will provide additional linkage from the square to the canal tow path.
There is also a bus route planned around the southern and western edges of the square.
The landscaping has been designed by Townshend Landscape Architects.
