Bad Company are an English supergroup comprised of band members Paul Rodgers, Mick Ralphs, Simon Kirke and Boz Burrell. They found great success during the 70s when they were one of the most popular groups of the classic rock era. They formed in 1973 after the demise of Rodgers’ band Free. Looking to start a new band, Rodgers formed Bad Company with Ralph, Kirke and Burrell. Combining the genres of blues and hard rock, Bad Company enjoyed critical and commercial success during the following decade, with Bad Company tickets selling like hot cakes. The band took their name from the film Bad Company, which Rodgers was a huge fan of.
1974 saw the release of Bad Company’s first full length self-titled album titled. The album was a massive success, enjoying long chart stays in North America, Europe and the UK. The group was considered one of the first super groups of the 70s due to the fact that the members had all had successful careers in previous musical groups. The band was managed by former Led Zeppelin manager Peter Grant who guided the band to success in the 70s, and helped secure the sales of Bad Company tickets.
Following their debut album reaching number one in the US, Bad Company embarked on tours of the US and the UK. The 70s saw the release of seven full length albums from Bad Company, including the records Straight Shooter, Run With the Pack, Desolation Angels and Rough Diamonds. Although largely alternative rock up until that point, Desolation Angels saw the introduction of strings and synthesizers into the band’s sound. Rough Diamonds was the last release of the band in their original incarnation.
At the end of the 70s the band had grown tired of playing large stadiums and the strain of constant Bad Company tours. Following the release of the album Rough Diamonds, they decided to split up. They claimed that the band had become bigger than the people in it and a break was needed.
The late 80s and early 90s saw the band reform with a different line-up. During the 80s and 90s the new line-up achieved moderate success, despite being without Rodgers as their lead vocalist. 1998 saw a proper reunion of the band, when Bad Company reformed with all their original members. Bad Company tickets for their most recent tour sold out.
