Duran Duran are one of the most enduring and influential British bands, known for their blend of new wave, synth-pop, rock, and glamorous visuals. Formed in Birmingham in the late 1970s, the band—comprising Simon Le Bon, Nick Rhodes, John Taylor, and Roger Taylor—rose to prominence in the early 1980s with iconic albums like Rio, Seven and The Ragged Tiger, and Notorious. Their striking music videos, stylish image, and catchy singles made them MTV favourites and chart-toppers across the world.
Over the years, Duran Duran have continued to evolve. Albums like Paper Gods (2015) showcased collaborations with producers such as Jacknife Lee and Nile Rodgers, and tracks that fused their classic 80s sound with modern electronic and dance influences. Their work has always balanced lush production, strong hooks, and a sense of style and spectacle.
In October 2023, Duran Duran released their sixteenth studio album, Danse Macabre. The Halloween-themed record features a mix of new songs, covers, and reimagined versions of older material. Guest contributors include Nile Rodgers, Warren Cuccurullo, Victor De Angelis of Måneskin, Andy Taylor, Mr Hudson, and others. Danse Macabre includes cover versions of Billie Eilish’s Bury a Friend, Talking Heads’ Psycho Killer, Rolling Stones’ Paint It Black, plus reworkings of Duran Duran songs and original tracks. The deluxe version of the album also includes bonus tracks like New Moon (Dark Phase)—a reimagining of “New Moon On Monday”—featuring former guitarist Andy Taylor, as well as other covers and new versions.
Beyond recording, Duran Duran remain a powerful live act. Their Danse Macabre tour has brought the new material to audiences with theatrics, strong visuals, and the energy fans expect. Special events, festival headline performances, and anniversary shows continue to celebrate their legacy while introducing the latest music.
In 2025, Duran Duran are still going strong. They have reissued A Diamond in the Mind on vinyl, and there are signs that they may release Reportage—a long-shelved album originally recorded with Andy Taylor—possibly shortly, adding to their rich catalogue. With decades of hits and bold new releases, they continue to influence everything from pop and electronic music to fashion and stage production.
