Robert Cummings changed his name legally to Rob Zombie in 1996, which was his stage name during his time as the lead singer of White Zombie, the noise rock band. White Zombie were signed to Geffen Records, and recorded heavy metal songs with a fantasy element. They called it a day shortly after Rob released his solo album, Hellbilly Deluxe.
His first project outside of White Zombie was a duet with Alice Cooper, Hands of Death (Burn Baby Burn), which was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance when it was released in 1996. His solo album, Hellbilly Deluxe was released in 1998, and it was a success, with the singles Dragula, Living Dead Girl and Superbeast performing well commercially. Rob Zombie tickets sold well for the tour in support of the album.
2001 saw the release of the platinum-certified The Sinister Urge, which was more experimental than Hellbilly Deluxe. The album contained singles Never Gonna Stop (The Red Red Kroovy), Feel So Numb and Demon Speeding. As well as the traditional heavy metal sound, it included new elements such as brass instruments.
In 2003 he released a greatest hits album, which contained songs from his solo albums as well as White Zombie material and some covers. White Zombie tickets for the world tour that followed sold well.
His directorial debut, House of 1000 Corpses, came out in 2003. He wrote the screenplay as well as directing the film. He returned to music in 2005 and recruited Marilyn Manson guitarist John 5, and former Alice Cooper drummer, Tommy Clufetos, and began recording Educated Horses. This was a departure from his heavy metal sound and veered more towards an alternative rock sound, with elements of heavy metal.
After another greatest hits compilation, The American Witch tour took place in support of Educated Horses and the greatest hits. In 2005, the sequel to House of 1000 Corpses came out, The Devil’s Rejects. He also wrote and directed Halloween, a remake of the classic 70s film – which opened at number one at the box office and grossed over $78 million.
Rob Zombie tickets for his recent tours have been popular and he has a huge following. He toured with Alice Cooper on The Gruesome Twosome tour, and then released Hellbilly Deluxe 2 in February 2010.
