Take That is an English pop group formed in Manchester in 1990, originally comprising Gary Barlow, Howard Donald, Mark Owen, Jason Orange, and Robbie Williams. The group, known for their catchy pop songs and impressive dance routines, has become one of the UK's most successful bands.
Led by Gary Barlow, who is the primary songwriter, Take That achieved significant success in the 1990s with a string of hits, including 12 UK number-one singles. They also had nine number-one albums, selling millions of records worldwide. After Robbie Williams left the band in 1995, the remaining members continued briefly before disbanding in 1996.
In 2006, Take That reunited as a four-piece without Williams, releasing the critically acclaimed album Beautiful World, followed by The Circus. Their success continued with Williams rejoining the group in 2010 for the album Progress, which became one of the fastest-selling albums in UK history.
Since 2014, Take That has operated as a trio, with the release of III and their 2023 album This Life, which saw them achieve the highest first-week sales for a British act that year. The group remains a major force in British pop, known for their spectacular tours and continued chart success.
They have won numerous awards, including eight Brit Awards, and have set records for their concert tours. Take That performed at significant events like the 2012 London Olympics closing ceremony and King Charles III's Coronation Concert in 2023. Their influence and popularity endure, making them one of the most iconic boy bands in UK music history.
