Tokio Hotel is a German music band formed in 2001 by singer Bill Kaulitz, guitarist Tom Kaulitz, bassist Georg Listing, and drummer Gustav Schäfer. The band's music journey began with pop rock and alternative rock, later evolving into electropop and synth-pop since 2014. In 2005, they gained international recognition with their German-language debut album "Schrei," which sold over half a million copies worldwide and produced four top-five singles in Germany and Austria. Their success continued with subsequent albums, including "Zimmer 483" and the English-language "Scream," which collectively sold over 2.5 million copies.
Tokio Hotel achieved numerous accolades, including MTV Europe Music Awards and MTV Video Music Awards. They became the first German band to win at the MTV VMAs and MTV Europe Music Awards. Their global influence is evident in their more than 10 million records sold worldwide.
The band faced challenges, such as a contract termination with Sony BMG Germany, but persevered through lineup changes and health issues. Bill Kaulitz underwent vocal cord surgery in 2008, leading to a temporary hiatus. They returned with the albums "Humanoid," "Kings of Suburbia," and "Dream Machine," each contributing to their musical evolution.
In recent years, Tokio Hotel has continued to release new music, including singles like "Berlin," "White Lies," and "Here Comes the Night." Their seventh album, "2001," was released in November 2022. The band remains active, with plans for "The Tour 2025" and their latest venture, "Your Christmas," released in November 2023.
